Assistant or Associate Director; Board & Volunteer Engagement (Finance)
Directs an ongoing university program to ensure that prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with its mission and/or specified objectives. Prepares short- and long-term goals and objectives.
1. Plans, develops and administers methods, strategies and procedures for meeting program objectives; directs and oversees the daily activities of staff members.
2. Prepares and monitors the annual budget and ensures that expenditures are within budget allocation.
3. Directs and coordinates personally, or through subordinate personnel, activities concerned with carrying out the objectives of the program.
4. Directs the preparation of and reviews reports and records of activities to ensure progress is being accomplished toward specified program objectives; modifies or changes methodology as required to redirect activities and attains objectives.
5. Analyzes trends within program areas, maintaining expert awareness of program information and change needs.
6. Formulates, implements, and maintains appropriate policies and procedures concerning program administration.
7. Manages and administers grant for program, including meetings, communication coordination, scholarships and other operations.
8. May prepare or participate in the preparation of proposals to obtain grants from state and federal agencies, and private foundation sponsors.
9. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
Assistant Director
Summary
Partners on the development and implementation of volunteer engagement initiatives for the University, in close collaboration with the Board and Volunteer Engagement team as well as the Division. The Assistant Director plays a key role in advancing the goals of the volunteer engagement team by actively contributing ideas, designing, and executing high-impact programs that engage executives, thought leaders, and donors in support of the University's priorities.
Job Duties
1. Partners in the creation and execution of innovative volunteer engagement opportunities which align with advancement and university priorities.
2. Manages a portfolio of internal and external relationships serving as a point of contact for executive volunteers and committees providing a high level of donor-first service.
3. Partners with Development colleagues to implement volunteer participation strategies as a direct component of philanthropic giving for University Advancement.
4. Provides insight, tools and guidance coaching on best practices and protocols for successful volunteer opportunities and engagement with key collaborators.
5. Serves as a front-line ambassador and University representative for volunteers, partners, and collaborators for assigned board.
6. Identifies opportunities and utilizes knowledge to support and enhance leadership volunteer recognition.
7. Supervises and provides guidance to staff or student workers as assigned, contributing to team development and operational excellence.
8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
The position works in tandem with the Executive Director, Board and Volunteer Engagement, as well as the Associate Vice President of Strategic Initiatives.
Associate Director
Summary Reporting to the Executive Director, while working closely with senior leadership, the Associate Director is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of high-impact volunteer engagement programs in alignment with University Advancement goals. This role plays a pivotal part in shaping and advancing volunteer strategies, cultivating high-level volunteer and donor relationships, and fostering cross-functional partnerships to maximize volunteer impact and philanthropic engagement.
Job Duties
1.Participates in the strategic direction and evolution of volunteer engagement programs, ensuring alignment with advancement priorities and institutional goals.
2.Oversees a portfolio of high-level volunteers and boards, cultivating relationships with executive-level alumni, thought leaders, and key donors to deepen engagement and support.
3.Collaborates across the Division to design and integrate volunteer engagement as a core component of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
4.Advises and mentors internal partners on effective volunteer management practices, creating scalable resources, toolkits, and protocols that support consistent, high-quality volunteer experiences.
5.Represents the institution in high-visibility settings, serving as a trusted liaison for priority volunteer boards and strategic initiatives.
6.Develops and implements volunteer recognition strategies that elevate the impact of leadership volunteers and reinforces the culture of philanthropy across the university.
7.Assesses program impact and identifies opportunities for innovation, leveraging data and feedback to guide future direction and improve outcomes.
8.Supervises and provides guidance to staff or student workers as assigned, contributing to team development and operational excellence.
9.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
