POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The School of Music at the University of South Florida is searching for a creative and collaborative individual to serve as the Instructor of Music Education and Assistant Director of Bands. This is a 9-month, full-time Assistant Professor of Instruction position, which contributes to the teaching and service missions of the University of South Florida. Anticipated start date is August 2025 or earlier depending on the availability of the successful candidate and the needs of the school.
DUTIES:
Primary responsibilities for the position will include (1) teaching courses in music education and conducting, (2) assisting with administrative, teaching, and creative aspects of the USF Band Program, (3) directing the Concert Band, and (4) supervising student teacher field experience. Additional responsibilities will include running "Symphonic Celebrations", an annual middle school band festival. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active student recruiting schedule, serve on committees, and perform other appropriate university and professional service.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctorate (PhD, DMA, etc.) in music, four years band directing experience at the secondary school level (including marching and concert ensembles).
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated involvement with contemporary trends in concert bands and music education including learner-centered pedagogical concepts. Evidence of administrative and program development skills. The ideal candidate has a record of excellent teaching at the university level, demonstrated examples of collaboration with colleagues, documented evidence of artistic conducting, and digital recording, mixing, and producing proficiencies. Candidates with diverse musical backgrounds and musical interests are encouraged to apply.
