The School of Music and the College of Design, Art and Performance are searching for a creative and collaborative musician who has an established record as an innovator in music and other art forms. We seek a forward-thinking individual who will help us to reimagine the arts and the impact of entrepreneurialism and AI on our fields. Artificial intelligence (AI) and Entrepreneurship should be the focus of their creative professional work or research agenda. The successful candidate, in line with the performance expectations of an R1 AAU institution, will work toward the rank of professor, which entails maintaining an active record of high-impact creative research at the national or international level.
The tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Entrepreneurism in the Arts, is a 9-month, full-time position, which contributes to the research, teaching and service missions of the University of South Florida. Anticipated start date is August 2025, or earlier depending on the availability of the successful candidate and the needs of the school.
Minimum Qualifications: Terminal degree (PhD, DMA, etc.) in music, or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience that meet national and/or regional accreditation standards. An established record working at the intersection of AI and the disciplines of music studies, performance, creation, recording and/or education. An established record as an innovator and entrepreneur in music industries.
Preferred Qualifications:. Demonstrated collaborative efforts involving musicians and artists from other art forms (dancers, actors and/or visual artists, etc.). Demonstrated experience teaching a diverse range of undergraduate and/or graduate students.
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to engage in research work, which may include, but not limited to, creative practice (i.e. performances, recordings, conducting, etc.), entrepreneurial endeavors in the industry, exhibitions, published books and articles, grants and sponsored research activities, fellowships, and residencies. Engaged and/or interdisciplinary work at the local, national and/or international levels; impact on policy and practice, research awards/honors and acknowledgments; and invitations and commissions are considered vital.
The successful candidate will mentor students for diverse musical careers as they design, build, promote, and teach high-quality AI and entrepreneurism courses for undergraduate and graduate students applicable to music and other areas of the arts, as well as music courses in their speciality and as needed by the School. They will be expected to organize workshops, symposia, convocations, etc. covering a wide range of AI, innovation and entrepreneurism topics and areas in the arts. They will also liaise with faculty from other areas in the School of Music, across the University, and with entities in the community. They will actively collaborate across the local/regional/national/international community, and with faculty and students across the University of South Florida, and they will engage in the School of Music, College of Design, Art and Performance, and the University of South Florida as they contribute to committees, meetings, auditions, and recruitment activities.
