Corporate Gamma Project Engineer (Finance)



Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Gamma Engineering, the Corporate Project Engineer Gamma is responsible for the execution of Engineering project and maintenance related activities carried out within the assigned areas of responsibility. This includes the management of internal company resources, (assets, financial and personnel), external professional engineering, design and other firms as part of the execution of equipment, facility, or utility modification / upgrade, or expansion projects.

This position is for an engineer with core skill sets in electrical, mechanical, and automation systems. Must be familiar with the principles of reliability centered maintenance and capital project management including project scoping, capital estimation, business case analysis, project implementation, project commissioning, and project turnover / closure.

Serves as global SME for Gamma engineering systems and processes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure all Engineering, EHS, and Quality policies and procedures are adhered to. Ensure all work carried out and equipment installed is safe, effective and compliant with regulatory and Sterigenics' standards, technical guidance documents, and regulations.
  • Ensure all work undertaken is reflected accurately in up-to date Engineering, project, and maintenance files.
  • Serve as principal liaison between professional Engineering firm(s), construction firms, service firms, and site project team members involved in the project(s) at hand.
  • Manage site activities necessary for successful execution of project(s) and ensure these are completed as necessary to tie in with the overall project execution.
  • Manage and resolve technical issues or changes arising throughout the project life cycle ensuring the overall project objectives of scope, cost and schedule are adhered to.
  • Assist sites with engineering troubleshooting.
  • Provides technical and training support.
  • Assist in establishing the founding for a comprehensive Reliability and Maintenance (R&M) program.
  • Identify in cooperation with the local maintenance, operations, corporate management and critical suppliers, all critical assets, critical spare parts, minimum inventory levels, obsolescence remediation, etc. This shall result in a comprehensive Asset Life Cycle Management program.
  • Share best practices and conduct lessons learned. Routinely measure success and report progress. Set up mechanisms to govern, communicate and drive the R&M programs forward.
  • Drive the organization in cooperation with Facility Operations and the Operational Excellence (OpEx) team towards Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) to improve the Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE).
  • Connect to and seek advice from external experts as appropriate. Benchmark against best-in-class companies and organizations in life-science industry. Leverage the knowledge and experience from Community of Practices (CoPs).
  • Support focused and aligned teamwork between engineering/facility Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Engineering Project Managers and Corporate Management.
  • Drive, conduct, and document Root-Cause-Analysis (RCA) and Failure-Mode-And-Effect (FMEA) exercises.
  • Ensure that all equipment installations comply with applicable design codes, industry standards (such as ATEX, CE, etc.), quality- and calibration requirements, and good engineering practices. Evaluate all equipment installations and upgrades to ensure that they comply.
  • Evaluate all equipment installations and upgrades for potential impact and ensure that all critical sterilization process parameters are maintained or improved as well as general equipment performance.
  • Generate and/or execute Test Plans (TP) and Installation- and Operational Qualification (IQ/OQ) documents. Document and review changes according to the Engineering Change Process (ECR) procedure. The quality of those documents shall demonstrate that good change control was exercised and shall satisfy a skeptical auditor's review.
  • Assist facilities in developing plans, making design changes, generating cost estimates, and getting appropriate funding for planned and unplanned equipment repairs.
  • Provide support to multiple and simultaneous engineering projects at various stages of completion. Participate in design and safety reviews, provide training to operations and maintenance, ensure that contractors and external tradesmen comply with Sterigenics standards for safety, job performance, appearance, calibration, quality, etc.
  • Travel to facilities on routine or urgency basis, averaging up to 60% of business days. Be reachable by mobile phone as appropriate outside business hours.

Education Required
  • Engineering degree in electro-mechanics or comparable job experience in the field. Electrical and Mechanical strengths required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience, with a portion of that as maintenance experience with two (2) years in a supervisory/project management capacity.

Experience & Skill Required
  • Effective English communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Strong skills in reading, creating, and modifying technical documents, schematics, and drawings.
  • Strong technical skills. Shall demonstrate knowledge in several engineering principles, practices and methods.
  • Must be a team player prepared to lead, work in, and embrace a team-based culture with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Requires project management skills, including creating / managing project budgets, resources (internal and external), and schedules.
  • Must have the ability to provide solutions to a variety of highly complex technical issues and function as a technical engineering expert for equipment, utilities and systems (within the assigned areas of responsibility) as it pertains to troubleshooting and operations.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.

Special Requirements
  • Ability to manage and execute on a multitude of concurrently running projects.
  • Travel requirement for this role is up to 60% on average.

Pay & Benefits

Salary Range: $87,500 - 142,000 per year; depending on experience.
