Highway Engineer (Construction)
Work in a team environment to develop contract documents, including construction drawings and technical specifications
Apply engineering principles pertaining to and in support of the detailed plans and construction documents for roadways under the guidance of senior engineers
Actively mentor and provide guidance to less experienced staff
Progress and evaluate design details for roadway projects, including pavement condition and repair, sidewalk design, signing and pavement markings, complete street evaluations and minor drainage
Develop contract drawings using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
Review and provide Quality Control (QC) for project engineering deliverables
Interface with other technical disciplines
Develop cost estimates for construction documents
Attend project meetings and participate in project site visits when required
Assist with marketing proposal efforts for new roadway projects
Serve as Deputy Project Manager or Project Engineer on roadway projects within NYSDOT Regions 4 and 5
Qualifications:
BS Civil Engineering from an accredited university
New York State Professional Engineer (PE) required or ability to obtain
5 to 10 years of meaningful experience related to roadway engineering design
Shall be self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn and grow professionally
Prepare design criteria using relevant codes and standards
Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office, MicroStation, and AutoCAD
Preliminary and final design plan production experience
Familiarity with MUTCD, AASHTO, and NYSDOT / County Standards
Good writing and communication skills a plus
