Regional Manufacturing Tooling Manager (Engineering)
What you will do
Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering, the role will be responsible for developing, managing design, prove out and defining the maintenance of Battery Manufacturing Tooling for the manufacturing sites. You will support plant operations by designing and innovating the battery manufacturing tooling to enable the region to meet the mid- and long-term safety, quality, and cost KPI targets, while also assisting to support new product development projects.
How you will do it
Provide Manufacturing Engineering Tooling support for developing, managing design, proving out and defining maintenance of Battery Manufacturing Tooling.
Collaborate with cross functional groups to review new product designs to verify if the required equipment Tooling designs exist and identifies the new Tooling designs that are required for successful production of new product designs.
Participate in new product launch program meetings to provide input and to complete the assigned deliverables at each phase of those programs.
Become capable with the use of Enterprise SAP system to develop Assembly area Tool Files, submit Engineering Changes for process specification and for Equipment & Tooling changes.
Recommending and drafting new tooling policies and procedures.
Collaborate with Product Engineering department to ensure that correct Tool files are linked to the design release and meet the product design requirement.
Tooling support to help develop critical spare parts lists, standardizing spare parts, and incorporate and standardize TPM processes into each plant for sustainability.
Recommend and draft tooling design changes or alternatives to enhance manufacturing process capability.
Maintain a centrally locate a drawing repository with updates and release notes.
Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to identify continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
Lead manufacturing engineering projects involving the development of process specifications, supplier management, purchase, qualification of manufacturing tooling, and project management.
Direct activities concerning design, modification, and maintenance of manufacturing tooling.
Provide technical expertise and leadership to resolve production line tooling problems with sound engineering concepts.
Share best practices, problem solving techniques and drive process improvements.
Troubleshoot productivity, quality, and parts issues in manufacturing, determine root cause, correct problems, and implement preventative processes.
Ensure processes and procedures are documented, standardized, and regularly updated.
Guide Plant & Regional Manufacturing Engineers with tooling projects including inputs for SSOW, PFMEA, DFAM, Machine Qualifications, Cost Tracking, etc.
Continuously partner with the plant teams to integrate changes where applicable.
Mentor and develop new engineers within the plants for fundamental understanding of tooling maintenance and process control.
Manage multiple priorities and deadlines bringing assignments to successful completion.
What we look for
Bachelor's or higher in a related discipline or equivalent years of experience.
Minimum 5 years' Manufacturing Engineering w/ Project Management,
Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Minitab and other related programs.
Experience in project execution .
Travel to various battery manufacturing assembly plants throughout the US is expected and global travel may be required. Travel may be 30-40% at times during peak project implementation phases.
Preferred Characteristics:
Previous Lead Acid Battery Manufacturing Tooling, Equipment & Process Experience.
Experience with SAP.
Experience with SolidWorks FEA Simulation.
