ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The mission of the Department of Student Life & Engagement (SLE) is to enhance the academic programs of study by providing opportunities for students, faculty and staff to interact in a variety of experiences and environments. SLE strives to promote student growth and development through involvement in diverse co-curricular cultural, social, and educational activities as well as governance programs.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The University of South Florida Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) services the USF community, students, faculty, and staff by providing opportunities for students to author their own experience through involvement opportunities and engaging educational programs that promote the academic, social, cultural, emotional, and participatory development and success of students while fostering a lifelong affinity to the university. The Office of Multicultural Affairs and the OMA Student Programming Board partners and collaborates with campus/(inter)national student organizations, alumni, campus departments, and community constituents enabling the office to provide quality advising, educational, and outreach efforts to students within the University community that drive the university's goals to provide safe, inclusive, and vibrant community for learning and to promote the success of students who function as engaged community citizens who can thrive in a dynamic global market.
Provides leadership, advising, and coordinating support for the programmatic, training, programs, traditions, and staff development initiatives. The position leads a team of professional, graduate, and undergraduate student staff in the advising of multiple student led organizations in promoting tradition, involvement, and engagement through programs that promote campus-wide cultural involvement initiatives and fosters safe, inclusive, and vibrant community fostering engaged citizens who can thrive in a global market.
Collaborate with campus and community partners to identify and implement a range of programs and educational opportunities that positively impacts the recruitment, retention and matriculation of current and prospective students from affinity groups. Utilize assessment data to inform and improve initiatives. Manage the annual budget and other resources for programming efforts.
Work collaboratively with respective functional area leaders from the Tampa and Sarasota-Manatee campuses to ensure that the Office of Multicultural Affairs programs, resources, and service align with the OneUSF consolidation efforts.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work to develop, mentor, and support student organizations through the development of their advisors, officers, and members. Provide ongoing student organization support to associated Students. Advise groups and organization advisors on campus policies and practices as related to event planning and other organization functions by providing resources. Advise in Strategizing ways to create a supportive core of community members to serve as mentors and advisors for organizations.
Provide advising and assessment for student program areas within OMA and student led programming board: including Heritage and pride celebrations, Ally and Advocacy Programming.
Serve as adviser to Office of Multicultural Affairs Programming Board (student led)
Assist in Developing and facilitating trainings and educational workshops for students, student organizations, and departments to support student led initiatives and activities.
Identify learning outcomes for program participants and develop tools to assess student learning and evaluate the overall effectiveness of specific programs.
Create, develop, and lead a strategic communications and marketing plan for OMA incorporating all student programmatic efforts from grassroots to social media and has the authority to approve all departmental marketing print promotions, and website updates.
Create, enhance, and sustain collaborative partnerships with key campus organizations and departments to maximize student co-curricular involvement and success.
Develop and assist with the implementation of campus-wide initiatives, methodologies and approaches to increase initial and ongoing participation of faculty, staff, and students in experiential education and civic engagement opportunities.
Serve as the primary representative of the office to the campus and community. Hire, train and supervise all office personnel.
Responsible for creating, managing and administering all office budgets and operating funds.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the program responsibilities and three years of professional experience; or Master's degree and three years of professional experience.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
PREFERRED:
Master's degree in College Student Affairs of related program and 1-2 years post master's degree with professional experience in higher education. The ideal candidate must have experience with student development, supervision, and advising a programming board. The ideal candidate must have vision, demonstrated leadership, strong organizational skills and experience in the areas of communication (oral and written), cultural competency, supervision, program planning and implementation, student group advising, risk management, assessment and evaluation.
