ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The University of South Florida Muma College of Business Graduate Programs office serves approximately 2000 students in master's, doctoral, and graduate certificate programs across all three campuses- Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota-Manatee, with more than 10,000 alumni.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Career Advancement , the Career Counselor delivers counseling, job search coaching and advising services to help Master's-level students and alumni make informed career decisions, gain career-related experience, prepare for an effective job search and obtain professional employment before, at or after graduation. The Career Counselor informs and engages students and alumni in the process of career development. Conducts coaching sessions, guides students through career exploration and provides up-to-date career information utilizing current resources and technology. Promotes and assists the Assistant Director with career related initiatives, events and co-curricular programming.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts individual and group coaching sessions to help students and alumni make informed career decisions. Assists and guide students and alumni through occupational exploration and the career decision-making process.
Assists the Assistant Director of Career Advancement and MCOB Graduate Program directors on the implementation of career related initiatives, events, and co-curricular programming.
Promotes career related initiatives, events, and co-curricular programming to current students and alumni.
Maintains a best practice approach for appointment management and coaching notes in a secure technology environment (12twenty).
Stays up to date on best practices in career coaching, program requirements and current events in graduate management education.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Minimum Qualifications:
The position requires a Master's degree in Career Counseling, Career Education, College Student Affairs, MBA; or a Bachelor's degree in those same fields with a minimum of two years of directly related experience. Alternatively, in specialized academic areas, the position may require a degree in that field of study.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
PREFERRED:
Demonstrated success in advising and coaching professionals at various stages of career development, including job search and outplacement, networking, branding, resume development, interviewing, negotiation, career pivots, assessment instruments and interpretation of results.
Experience in a corporate or university career center or working with students in a higher education setting, outplacement / transition, career development or relevant role interfacing with adult learners and employers.
Certification(s) from a relevant professional organization such as National Career Development Association, Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches (PARWCC), or similar.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Microsoft Suite. The ability to work harmoniously with various internal and external groups.
