Program Overview

 

Allied World has an exciting opportunity for students looking to launch a career in the insurance industry. We have various spots available in our 8 week long 2025 Summer Internship Program beginning in June. Our structured program combines experiential learning, individual mentoring and training aimed at providing interns with the foundation for a strong insurance future and a satisfying and rewarding career at Allied World. The intern positions will be located in any of our main branch offices (New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Los Angeles).

 

Interns will be assigned to a primary product line (General Casualty, Professional Lines, Reinsurance, Actuary). In addition, Interns will learn about each of our critical service functions including underwriting, actuarial, claims, operations and business development.

Program Components

• Understanding of Allied World, our history, our mission who we are in the market and our value propositions
• Understand basics of underwriting (entry level understanding of how to analyze and review accounts, make risk determinations, profitably price risk and negotiate with brokers), Reinsurance, Actuary
• Through business development gain exposure to brokers that help grow the Allied World business
• Learn and interact with various parts of the organization: underwriting, claims, actuarial, operations, compliance, risk management, loss control
• A unique opportunity to interact with senior management
• Create and develop a network of Allied World employees through your experience

• Rising seniors (undergraduate degree)
• Enrollment in a Business, Risk Management, Insurance, Actuarial Science/Mathematics, (Major/Minor) preferred
• Minimum GPA of 3.0
• Student desire to launch a career in the insurance industry
• Proven leadership skills through extracurricular activities, internships, or work experience
• Problem Solving: Exceptional analytical skills to maneuver through problems and challenges
• Interpersonal Savvy: Relates well to all kinds of people, builds constructive and effective relationships, uses diplomacy and tact
• Action Oriented: High energy and focus.  Ability to work independently and as a team
• Written and Verbal Communication: Ability to write and speak clearly and succinctly in a variety of different communication settings and styles
• Detail Oriented and Organized: Ability to orchestrate multiple activities to accomplish a goal
• Career Ambition: Makes things happen for themselves. Strong desire to learn the insurance industry business
• Business acumen: Knows how businesses work, knowledgeable of business processes and procedures
• Adapting to Change: Effectively cope with change, ability to shift gears quickly
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis
• Preference for candidates open to relocation after graduation

 

Compensation

 

Rate: $22.00/hr
